Alex Ayers gives us an overview of the most important things going on in DC this month. Highlights of this month's This Month in DC Newsletter:
In the latest update, we start things off by referencing the importance of a functioning HVACR industry in this sweltering heat—and the policies that shape it.
An interesting find from the Unitary Market Report was that the transition to A2L refrigerants is moving faster than anticipated. As of April 2025, over half of all residential ducted systems sold used A2Ls, signaling strong industry progress toward the 2025 installation deadline.
To support safe handling and compliance, HARDI’s Talent team launched a new A2L Storage course that emphasizes the importance of proper fire code training to stay compliant. The course also comes with tools to help distributors get local approval for higher A2L storage limits, that they might not be aware they need with the 2024 Fire Code changes.
Alex also warned members about a fake group pushing to delay the A2L transition for profit—encouraging members to steer clear. Meanwhile, HARDI continues to combat misinformation around PFAS, clarifying how HVACR refrigerants differ from harmful “forever chemicals.”
On the legislative front, we urge members to use HARDI’s grassroots tool to oppose the proposed repeal of Section 179D (the commercial buildings energy efficiency tax deduction) in the Senate’s reconciliation bill. The bill also includes a clawback of unspent AIM Act implementation funds, which won’t impact the HFC phasedown.
Finally, check out Todd Titus’ State Affairs Update video, highlighting big state-level wins and challenges on refrigerant incentives, PFAS, and natural gas restrictions.
