Federal Court Upholds DOE’s 95% Efficiency Furnace Rule

On November 4, 2025, the D.C. Circuit Court of Appeals ruled in favor of the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) in a case brought by the American Gas Association (AGA) and others over the department’s energy efficiency rules for consumer furnaces, commercial water heaters, and the repeal of a rule that would have protected non-condensing technology from future regulations.
