Inflation Reduction Act

The Inflation Reduction Act (IRA) created or improved multiple avenues for consumers to reduce the cost of installing energy efficiency HVAC equipment in their homes. Through tax credits and home energy rebate programs the federal government has created the largest investment in energy efficiency for HVAC systems in our lifetimes. This toolkit is designed to help distributors to understand and differentiate these programs to help assist their customers and building owners in utilizing the funding.

There are four key residential programs that were created or improved by IRA, these programs fit into two distinct categories: tax credits available to homeowners/tenants who have a tax liability and rebate programs designed to reduce the overall cost of HVAC improvements. In addition to the residential programs, IRA also made changes to the commercial building energy efficiency tax credit, Section 179D.
